Why take this tour

Pompeii tours and visits to the impressive Herculaneum are a must for every amateur archaeologist. Book with Askos Tours and you can see both in just one day. These magnificent sites are among the best-known excavations of the ancient world and on many people’s bucket list. They have long been a destination for tourists who have included them among stages of their European grand tour.

For your Pompeii and Herculaneum tours, you will meet with our staff at the main entrance of Pompeii. Our guides are all renowned for their friendliness, punctuality and ability to communicate clearly. Your guide on this tour will be an archaeologist experienced in presenting both sites in one day.

There is no need to queue as you will have priority entrance with tickets booked in advance. Once inside, following a short walk up a gentle slope from Porta Marina, you arrive at the city's Forum. This square had many functions. It served as a place of religious life, of cultural meetings, and markets where trade took place. From here you enter the interior to visit the best preserved houses, shops, and fabulous temples. Essential in all Pompeii tours is a stop at Lupanare, the famous house of sin and pleasure.

Pompeii seen and explored, you will take a short break for lunch.

Then, still with your guide, you board the Circumvesuviana train for the short ride to Herculaneum. A place of millennial beauty, and a more glamorous extension of nearby Pompeii, Herculaneum was a city resurrected from Vesuvius. Feel the privilege of entering the house of Neptune and Amphitrite and admire the stunning glass paste mosaic. Visit the fabulous House of the Deer, and many other extraordinary residences besides.

So, what are you waiting for? Get Pompeii tours crossed off your bucket list!

Our Reviews

  • An unforgettable day in Pompeii and Herculaneum

It was a pleasure to listen to the guide who wanted so much to convey all the information about the location that I had a feeling like time stood still

  • Can definitely recommend!

These type of sites are better enjoyed with a guide, that way you really appreciate the meaning of everything and our guide was very knowledgable! Were it not for this tour we would have missed Herculaneum, which is possibly even better than Pompeii itself (well preserved and less crowded). Can definitely recommend!

  • Amazing tour of ancient ruins!

Michele was a fabulous tour guide! Friendly and knowledgeable, he took our group through Pompeii and then we basically had a private tour of Herculaneum in the afternoon. He also ensured that we knew how to get back to our respective destinations safely after Herculaneum. He was so kind and went above and beyond!

  • A great day in Pompeii

Had a great tour with Sergio. He speaks very passionately, in good english, about archeology and the history of the area, which really brings the stones and ruins to live. We learned and saw a lot. Sergio managed to convey his passion to my 12 yr old son who is still speaking in awe to everybody over what Sergio showed us. He wants to be an archeologist now 🙂
    Great job!

  • Great tour of Pompeji and Herculaneum

Diego was an excellent guide with great passion for Pompeji and extremely good to explain the story. We enjoyed the tours both to Pompeji and to the city Herculaneum. We will absolutely recommend both tours with Askos- and Diego as a guide!!

  • Amazing but a bit overwhelming for one day

The history behind both cities is incredible. There is a lot to see and it’s best if you decide beforehand which you may have more interest in – the size and destruction of Pompeii or the preservation of Herculaneum. Both cities are very different. Although they were both destroyed by the volcano, their stories are not the same. Be prepared for quite a bit of walking. The day is long and, one thing to note, if you add Herculaneum to your tour you will take a 10-15 minute train there from Pompeii. Upon exiting the train there is a long downhill walk to get to Herculaneum that must be climbed if you plan to return by train. We did feel a bit rushed in getting to Herculaneum only to have to wait for almost 30 minutes for 2 other couples who were coming in from Pompeii. There is alot of information and sights to take in and, although it was a fun tour, we’d probably only choose one city to visit if we did it again.

  • Amazing tour of Pompei and Herculaneum

Sergio was our guide. It quickly became obvious to us that he is very knowledgeable and has a burning passion for archelogy. The tour was great and he brought us back in time with his very informative descriptions of what happened in those ancient times. It was great seeing both Pompei and Herculaneum on the same day. We can highly recommend this tour.

  • Great tour, fantastic history, overall great experience!

Our guide, Diego, was very knowledgable and enthusiastic. The tour was a great way to see in one day both Pompeii and Herculaneum. Pompeii is so big, we would’ve got lost in it. Diego guided us through all important places, enthusiastically told us interesting stories about life in Pompeii and Herculaneum and their inhabitants, even was kind enough to give us a lift to the train station at the end!! Overall we were very impressed. Walking in the heat was not easy but was totally worth it!

  • Great Tour of Pompeii & Herculaneum

We enjoyed a lot our tour. Sergio was a very knowledgeable guide and enthusiastic! The way he described the location, or piece of art and so on made you travel in time with you imagination. The tour covers a lot of content, but at no moment we felt like rushed. I would for sure recommend this tour with Askos.
