THE PERFECT WAY TO SEE, LEARN ABOUT AND EXPERIENCE HERCULANEUM
Booking with ASKOS for our private tour of Herculaneum was the best choice we could possibly have made and we were absolutely blessed with the best of the best tour guides MARIA NOVELLA. From the beginning to the end of our Herculaneum visit, Maria assured that we learned as much as possible about life and commerce in Herculaneum before the Vesuvius eruption and then what ensued for the residents as they tried to escape. Maria brought to life for us every aspect of the once beautiful city. She explained the progression of the art that adorns the walls of many of the homes, the architecture and the layouts of the various once-beautiful homes we visited. Thank goodness Herculaneum has been awakened and is available for those of us today to study and appreciate. Thank goodness we had MARIA NOVELLA who carefully and patiently introduced us to the wonders a nd beauty of Herculaneum. We have wanted to visit Herculaneum and our visit last week was a dream of a lifetime come true. GRAZIE!!!

Perfect Day in Herculaneum
Our two-hour Askos tour at Herculaneum was as wonderful as one could have wanted. Our guide, Silvia, was a PhD student who has actually done field work at the ruins. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the ancient seaside resort and the many digs that have occurred there since Charles VII’s began pilfering from the site in the 1730s. Silvia was especially good at explaining the way that archeologists use evidence to gain insight into how people passed their time in Herculaneum — from grooves worn into the marble cisterns to the deterioration of mosaics in the dining hall floors from stomach acids. We are also very grateful to Silvia for being so kind and gracious when we showed up late for the tour and for recommending an excellent pizzeria in town!

Unforgettable tour with Raffaele
ABOUT OUR GUIDE: We feel lucky that life has brought Raffaele and us together during our tour, because he is a very knowledgeable and at the same time funny guy who passes on his knowledge of history with great intelligibility! His English is super, well understood. Raffele is an extremely kind and cheerful tour guide, the time spent with him was great, we enjoyed every minute with much laughter! He answered all our questions kindly and patiently. We highly recommend him!!
ABOUT ASKOS TOURS: Very reliable company!! From the very beginning they answered all our questions very kindly and quickly. The information provided was accurate, they did everything just like it was previously discussed. We had a special request for a private driver, they could also help us with this. The driver was arranged for us in exactly the same accurate way.
ABOUT THE TOUR ITSELF, a good piece of advice for travelers: it was good to book such an organized tour because we wouldn’t have been able to get that much information if we cut ourselves into exploring the Herculaneum by ourselves. One goes smoothly past important and interesting things / attractions / details, that a tour guide draws attention to. I recommend everyone to pay for the tour because of the amount of information we’ve received.
This makes exploring the place so much more interesting and valuable. Szilvia and family from Hungary.

Herculaneum with Luciano
We’re so pleased we booked a tour for Herculaneum with Askos. Luciano was our guide and he gave us such a comprehensive and enthusiastic tour, describing in great detail the culture and daily life of ancient Ercolano, and explaining the architecture and artisanship of the astonishing remains of this once beautiful playground for the wealthy. We cannot recommend Askos tours highly enough. If you are spending any time in the Campania region, Herculaneum is must-see, and best toured with Askos.

Tour of a lifetime at Herculaneum
On a trip to Naples we wanted to visit the ruins at Herculaneum. Because we had been to Pompeii on a previous visit and came away with unanswered questions on Vesuvius and the catastrophic eruption that destroyed the area in 79 AD we wanted a private tour with English speaking guide. Fortunately we found Giancarlo of Askus tours and were able to make a reservation with him on the next day. Because of his extensive academic background and experience we spent several hours learning about the people of Ancient Rome, their customs and life and how they perished when the eruption of Mount Vesuvius took place. So many interesting facts I was unaware of, including the fact that the entire geography of the mountain had been transformed; they discovered frescoes from Herculaneum depicting a the mountain prior to the eruption. Giancarlo took us through the the important rooms and enclaves of Herculaneum and explained the purpose and meaning of each one.
We felt we had really gotten a invaluable experience. Giancarlo is a talented and knowledgeable guide and we would definitely revisit for another tour.
